Feeling Superfine
Last modified: November 30, 2004 - 12:20 AM
North to Temora is home for the Merino sheep that produce Australia's finest wool.
The wool measures between 12.9 and 13.2 microns. As part of the superfine operation the Merino's are kept on a controlled diet and are constantly shedded. The sheep each wear a coat that is changed approximately every six months. This ensures the fleece to be kept clean. The wool is usually purchased by the Italians and is used for more exclusive clothing.
