Bush Bucks

How Bush Bucks Works - Published: 30 Oct 2007
At last its here, the Bush Bucks concept is based on some simple assumptions:

  • Local people support local businesses as long as the prices are fiar;
  • Most residents have ties outside the shire, which can be used to encourage more money into the district, for example, by having friends or family visit Temora
  • Local Businesses employ local people;
  • Population must be maintained, because loss of residents leads to fewer services;
  • Fewer services means people move away, creating a vicious circle for population decline, which also makes it hard to attract new residents;
  • Rural communities fade away if they lose population and services.

In devising a scheme different from any old 'shop local' campaign, a fresh new approach is being attempted.
