Environmental Win for TemoraLast modified: June 24, 2009 - 4:16 PM
Temora did exceptionally well in the annual Lachland Catchment Management Authority (LCMA) Natural Resource Management Awards, announced at Forbes on June 11th. Both Temora West Public School and Temora Shire Council won their respective categories, from a strong field of nominations. The annual Education Award is presented to a school or youth group for its contribution to raising awareness, knowledge and understanding of Landcare and sustainable practices amongst students and the community. According to the citation, TWPS won because of its work to development and implement a School Environmental Management Plan focusing on curriculum initiatives, resource management and grounds and environment management. Temora Shire Council was named this year's winner, for a number of reasons, according to the citation read. Council has developed the Environmental Liaison Committee linking Schools, Landcare Groups, Government agencies and interested community members to explore natural resource management issues. Winners will now be entered into the State Landcare Awards to be contested later this year. Contact details |
