180 extra doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination have been made available to Temora Shire residents after a delivery was received at Temora Medical Complex.

“Councillors, staff and I have worked extremely hard to advocate and lobby for these extra Pfizer vaccinations. It was a unanimous resolution at last week’s Council meeting to do all we can to get our community vaccinated,” said Mayor Rick Firman.

“We are mighty grateful to our Federal Member Michael McCormack MP, State Member Steph Cooke MP and Chief Executive of MLHD, Jill Ludford, for their efforts in making this happen,” said Mayor Firman.

From 13th September, the Temora Medical Complex, along with Victoria Street Surgery, will be receiving an additional 300 Pfizer vaccinations per week to further progress our vaccination rate.

“Whist residents can book to have their Pfizer vaccine at Victoria Street Surgery, and the Astra Zeneca vaccines at both medical centres, the Temora Medical Complex is not yet taking bookings for the Pfizer vaccination,” said Mayor Firman.

Due to limited resources, Temora Medical Complex is contacting identified groups to ensure those at highest risk, vulnerable people and essential workers are receiving the vaccination in the first instance. Once that rollout is complete, they will open up to general bookings for eligible community members.

“The Medical Complex is still providing Astra Zeneca shots for those who are eligible, and Victoria Street Surgery are also offering both vaccines,” said Mayor Firman. “This new delivery simply means we have more of a choice, and more Temora residents can be vaccinated sooner.”

“We considered implementing a pop-up vaccination clinic for these extra doses, but it was deemed inappropriate for our needs,” explained Mayor Firman.

“Temora Medical Complex, like the Victoria Street Surgery, is well equipped with dedicated staff who are going above and beyond to get our community vaccinated, and to them we are extremely grateful.”

“More and more people are going out and getting vaccinated and it is extremely pleasing to see.”

“Council strongly urges all Temora Shire residents, who are able, to book for their vaccinations as soon as possible. The sooner we are vaccinated, the sooner we can move back to some normality in our lives, and I think that is something we are all looking forward to,” said Mayor Firman.

“Council is so thankful to those residents who are doing their bit to keep our community safe and healthy. It is vital that we all adhere to the public health orders and the vast majority of the Temora Shire community are doing just that,” he said.

“Council will continue to work closely with our members of parliament, MLHD, Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network and NSW Health to ensure we are doing everything in our power to protect the community during this difficult time,” he concluded.

Temora Medical Complex can be reached on 6980 3600 and Victoria Street Surgery can be phoned on 6978 0063. Please do not call Temora Medical Complex to book a Pfizer vaccine at theis point.
