Starting a Business

Getting Started

To those starting a business the first time, Temora Shire Council is a member of a group which supports the South West Slopes Business Enterprise Centre. An officer of the BEC attends the Council Chambers on a regular basis and is available for appointment. Interviews can be arranged directly with the EDM. Temora also has its own business group, the Temora Business Enterprise Group (TBEG) which is very active in providing support, training and networking opportunities to its members.

The development of industrial and residential land has often in the past, been carried out by Council, but more recently private developers have taken advantage of the strength of the industrial and housing market in Temora and providing the major source of new stocks of land. Council's Director of Environmental Services, Kris Dunstan, and the Economic Development Manager, Craig Sinclair, are available to speak with potential developers and investors on a confidential basis, regarding development plans.

The Department of State and Regional Development has a close association with the economic development section of Temora Shire Council, and those who wish to develop an existing business, relocate from a metropolitan area or start a new business may find assistance in the form of information and in some instances grants towards non-building infrastructure such as electricity, car parks and relocation incentives.

For further information regarding Economic Development enquiries please contact council on (02) 6980 1124 or email csinclair@temora.nsw.gov.au.

Beer & Business

Beer & Business is a short, casual business gathering held each month with the aim of sharing, connecting and promoting anything business related in a relaxed and inclusive environment over a few drinks and light refreshments.

"Host" businesses are given the chance for an extended presentation in return for contributing to some food and refreshments. The venue may change depending on the host's preference. All TBEG members are eligible to be a host/sponsor.

At times, TBEG will have a particular relevant topic, guest speaker or presentation to include.

Non-TBEG members are welcome to attend and find out more about TBEG and all it offers.

Prosper Initiative

The Prosper Initiative is a working group all about resourcing vibrant enterprise in Temora's main street. We are community members who are passionate about seeing the main street continue to grow as the vibrant face of Temora Shire.

In Temora, we've always punched above our weight - a small town that thinks big. We have a reputation for innovation, dreaming big, and not backing down from a challenge. This culture of aiming high and thinking differently has positioned us perfectly for the next stage of growth, especially as we look across the landscape of our beautiful Hoskins Street.

This is Temora's time to take things up a level - to reimagine old and new ways of doing business, to connect with available resources, to leverage our strengths, and to see our main street, and our town, continue to thrive.
