When to contact the Ranger

The Ranger is available to assist with animal-related matters during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4.30pm.

Please contact the Ranger during these hours for non-emergency matters, including:

  • Lost pets

  • Barking dog complaints

  • Reports of straying or roaming dogs and cats

  • Requests to release an animal from the pound

These matters are not after-hours emergencies. If you need to report one of these issues, please contact the Ranger during business hours.

Barking dog complaints

Council’s Companion Animal Policy and Procedure encourages residents experiencing issues with barking dogs to speak directly with their neighbours and attempt to resolve the issue amicably before contacting the Ranger.

After-hours emergencies

The Ranger should only be contacted outside business hours for emergencies involving:

  • Livestock on roads

  • Dog attacks

Under the Companion Animals Act 1998, a dog attack includes an incident where a dog rushes at, attacks, bites, harasses or chases a person or animal (excluding vermin), whether or not an injury occurs.

If it’s not an emergency, please do not contact the Ranger outside of business hours. Instead, get in touch during the next business day. This helps ensure after-hours assistance remains available for genuine emergencies requiring urgent attention.
