Council Strengthening Regional Collaboration Through REROC

At its March 2026 meeting, Temora Shire Council resolved to withdraw from the Riverina Joint Organisation (RivJO) and continue its regional collaboration activities as a member of the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (REROC).

The decision reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to working closely with neighbouring councils to deliver better outcomes for rural and regional communities. While RivJO is currently in hiatus, REROC provides a well-established platform for regional collaboration, enabling councils to share expertise, tackle regional challenges, and advocate effectively for local needs.

REROC is a voluntary association of seven general purpose councils and two water county councils located in the eastern Riverina region of NSW. It continues to be a key platform for regional problem-solving, resource sharing, innovation, and representation at higher levels of government. Council’s involvement ensures Temora Shire remains part of a strong regional voice, helping secure funding, implement shared projects, and advocate for initiatives that support rural and regional communities.

Mayor Rick Firman OAM, who is also the REROC Board Chairman, said, “Our communities face challenges that are best addressed together. By working collaboratively with neighbouring councils through REROC, we can respond more effectively to issues like infrastructure planning, water management, community services, and economic development. This approach delivers practical outcomes for our shire residents while ensuring our voice is heard at broader regional and state levels.”

Mayor Firman added, “Temora Shire has a long history with REROC, being a foundation member Council, and this partnership remains invaluable. It allows us to work together on projects that would be difficult for any single council to achieve alone, promoting efficiency, innovation, and a stronger sense of community across the eastern Riverina region. Every initiative we undertake through REROC contributes to building a resilient and vibrant future for our shire residents.”

Council will now formally begin the process of withdrawal from RivJO, ensuring a smooth transition while maintaining its focus on initiatives that strengthen regional communities and deliver practical outcomes for residents.
