On behalf of Transport for NSW, Temora Shire Council is upgrading a 1.4-kilometre section of Hoskins Street in Temora. While Hoskins Street is classified a state owned road, and therefore managed by Transport for NSW, Council has been contracted to complete the upgrade works, including removing old road surface and laying stronger and smoother road surface. To limit the impacts to motorists, businesses and residents, the project will be carried out in stages.

“This is a mighty task ahead for Councillors, staff, and our Temora Shire community - which will inevitably end in a positive result for all road users,” explains Mayor Rick Firman.

The works were initially scheduled to commence this week (11 March). However, due to unforeseen technically circumstances it was delayed two weeks by Transport for NSW.

“While works were held up, Council are now confident they will commence Monday 25th March. We expect this road will last us another 50 years - so it is important it is done right!”

Stage one, part one will commence Monday 25 March on Hoskins Street, between Victoria and Austral Streets. It will take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting. The works will be day works between the hours of 7am and 6pm.

Hoskins Street will be closed to motorists during the day for two weeks, from 25 March, between Victoria and Austral Street. Detours will be implemented via Austral Street, Baker Street and Victoria Street.

“There will be no street parking in front of the Medical Complex, however we understand this is an essential service and therefore we’ve ensured access to the car park will remain open from the Austral Street end of Hoskins Street,” Mayor Firman said.

“Another essential service is Temora & District Funeral Service, and we want to reassure our community that street parking will remain open in front of this service – again accessible at the Austral Street end of Hoskins.”

Access to parking in Britannia Street is available on Baker and Deboos Streets for Temora Library, Pinnacle Services, and other businesses in Hoskins Street, near this location.

Stage one, part two is expected to commence immediately after part one (approximately early April) on Hoskins Street between Kitchener Road and Polaris Street. These works will take approximately four weeks during the day (between 7am and 6pm), weather permitting.

“These works will be different to the first part, which will be closed completely during day works. During Stage one part two works, Hoskins Street will remain open with single lane closures during the day. Reduced speed limits and traffic control will be in place to direct traffic,” Mayor Firman added.

“Both stages will reopen to traffic at night. Council suggests, if you are travelling through Hoskins Street – and not stopping, you reroute your journey to avoid delays.”

“Remember this is a short-term inconvenience for longer-term gain. Council appreciates our community’s patience and understanding, in particular businesses and residents of Hoskins Street, while we undertake these works safely” concluded Mayor Firman.

Note: These works will not include a roundabout installation at Polaris Street intersection, Hoskins Street footpath upgrades, or Heavy Vehicle by-pass. These projects are subject to further investigation and/or funding.
