Thomas the Tank Engine goes to the Museum

Once an APEX asset, Council took possession of Thomas when the Temora APEX Club demised. However, each year the cost of the engine and trailer increases. The current cost is estimated at $3k per year, and Thomas currently does not attract any income to cover the cost.

Late last year, Council’s Asset and Operations Committee reviewed the asset, because of the ongoing costs, and because the likelihood was that Thomas would require a significant revamp in the near future. Thomas’ larger than life appearance hides an aging ‘historic car model’ Datsun 180b.

Council agreed with the Committee on their recommendation to issue Expression of Interest to the community of anyone wishing to purchase the amusement ride.

After the EOI was published and advertised, previous members of the now folded APEX Temora club verbally advised that an agreement was reached between Council and APEX Temora that Thomas the Tank Engine be gifted to Council. This was subject to Thomas, when retired, going to the Rural Museum or back to Apex Australia.

Following the discussion by the Councillors, and the report to Council it was resolved that Thomas the Tank Engine be placed in storage at the Bundawarrah Centre until future minor restorations are made and then it be placed on public display. However, the car trailer, once used to transport Thomas the Tank Engine to the Bundawarrah Centre, be sent to auction and sold.
