Draft Springdale Flood Warning System Design Report

Stantec were commissioned by Temora Shire Council to deliver the Springdale Flood Warning System Investigation and Design project. The project was initiated following the completion of the Ariah Park and Springdale Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan (August 2023), which identified flood warning in Springdale as a high-priority measure to reduce risks to life, property damage, and hazards associated with motorists driving through floodwaters.

Recent flooding to impact Springdale has occurred in 2011, 2016 and 2021. In these floods, property owners and occupiers have been directly impacted and transport networks including the main road traversing the town, Burley Griffin Way, has been inundated. Flood lead times are limited with the main upstream catchment being Gundibindyal Creek covering an area of 18.8 km².

Six (6) flood warning system options were identified and evaluated using a tailored Multi-Criteria Assessment (MCA) framework, considering cost, effectiveness, constructability, and operability.
