Extraordinary Council Meeting to Consider Code of Meeting Practice

Temora Shire Council will hold an Extraordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday, 9 June 2026 to consider amendments to its Code of Meeting Practice following recent changes at the State Government level.

The meeting has been called after the NSW Parliament formally disallowed the 2025 Model Code of Meeting Practice on 26 May 2026. The Model Code, prepared by the NSW Office of Local Government, had previously been adopted by Council in November 2025 as required under State legislation.

Mayor Rick Firman OAM said it was important for Council to ensure its governance framework remained compliant with legislative requirements while maintaining consistency in how Council meetings are conducted.

“Council is required to have a Code of Meeting Practice in place that aligns with current legislation,” Mayor Firman said.

“The Code provides the framework for how Council meetings operate, including how business is considered, how debate is managed, the role of Councillors and the Mayor, and how decisions are made on behalf of our shire community.”

At the Extraordinary Meeting, Councillors will consider reverting to a Code of Meeting Practice based on the 2021 Model Code. This would ensure Council meetings can continue to operate under a compliant set of rules following the withdrawal of the 2025 Model Code by NSW Parliament.

The meeting is being held solely to consider this matter and ensure Council remains compliant with its legislative obligations.
