Parks and Gardens Apprentice/Trainee

NSW Government program “A fresh start for local government apprentices, trainees and cadets” has provided a unique opportunity to create a new role within Temora Shire Council.

Are you an outdoor orientated person with an interest in the natural environment?

As our next Parks and Gardens Trainee you will work alongside the Open Spaces Coordinator to delivery the Parks & Gardens’ works plan whilst undertaking the training requirements of a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.

The position:

  • Maintain Council’s parks, gardens, playing fields, cemeteries and tree plantations
  • Garden maintenance - weeding, mowing, edging, whipper snipping, spraying, pruning, planting, mulching, verge control, watering and general maintenance.
  • Operate equipment including but not limited to utility vehicle, large mowing implements, tractor with implements etc
  • Ensure plant inspections and associated documentation is completed regularly
  • Use small plant, hand and power tools to carry out duties
  • General labouring including shovel work – can involve heavy lifting tasks as directed by supervisor

  • Current Class C Driver Licence (Provisional licence or above)
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development and training
  • Ability to partake in physical tasks including manual handling/lifting
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions both verbally and in writing
  • A positive attitude & team ethos, ready to work within the Parks and Gardens function for delivery of the highest standard of work
